36”x24” original mixed media painting

This painting is part of a series I created called Linen & Leaves. It was inspired by my interest in learning to hand-dye natural fibers using vegetables, berries, leaves, and all sorts of things found in nature. As I thought about fabrics and yarns, I wondered how different types would take the different plant-based dyes. I started to daydream about these things and suddenly I could see how I might communicate these things abstractly with paint.

You’ll notice that I’ve used shapes in my work that are reminiscent of fabric scraps – some thick and heavy, some very sheer and translucent. I used some softer colors that are more like those that you would get from natural dyes, along with brighter pops of color that remind me of the things I might use to actually create a dye like beets, flower petals, and spices. I’ve also incorporated some of that feeling of dreaminess and softness that represents my thought process as I paint. I like to let my intuition take over and it sometimes feels like I’m in a little dream state, losing track of time and getting really caught up in what I’m doing.

“Petal Potion” is a beautifully layered original acrylic/mixed media painting. It was created on a 36”x24” wood panel that is 2” deep. Due to the wood, it has crisp light pine edges that give it a finished look without having to frame it.

It’s ready for you to hang on your wall. It has easy to hang hardware (adjustable Wall Buddies hangers) installed on the back and has clear bumpers to keep it from moving around once you have hung it.
